Gynecomastia
Why choose a gynecomastia?
Breast development in men can occur at a young age but is most commonly seen in men over the age of 45. This can be psychologically distressing and is often a reason to consider surgical treatment.
What is a gynecomastia?
An increase in breast volume in men can have two main causes.
On the one hand, it may result from hormonal stimulation, which can occur at a relatively young age during puberty. In some cases, a hormonal imbalance is present, leading to gynecomastia. This involves an enlargement of the glandular breast tissue, which is responsible for the swelling. Although relatively rare, this condition can often be treated with medication following hormonal evaluation.
On the other hand, in the majority of cases, breast enlargement is due to an accumulation of fatty tissue. This is referred to as pseudo-gynecomastia. The causes can vary, but factors such as an imbalanced diet and lack of physical activity often play a significant role. Excessive alcohol consumption can also promote the conversion of testosterone into estrogen, which may lead to fat accumulation in the chest area and often also in the abdominal and lower back regions.
Surgical correction involves either extensive liposuction, removal of the glandular tissue, or a combination of both.
